Sullen and Sordid I did kneel
Upon a broken, battered field
Where I had waged a war – now lost
My fractured heart its greatest cost
My hands were clenched on blackened ashes
My only memory of what had happened
For these were once a living heart
Until my clench tore it apart
A broken rose lay by my side
The last token of a beautiful lie
And as I looked out to the darkened sky
The black clouds billowed before my eyes
And there I wept, a broken man
Lost in a sea of hopeless land
Unable to bear my past mistakes
Afraid of a worthless future state
And so I cried out, my hands lifted high
“What is the point of this broken life?”
Can a man be given a second chance?
Have I lost that which is best?”
Tears streamed from my sullen face
“Have I lost my chance for grace?
I broke a love, I broke a trust
Let the King do what He must”
